Urban mobility in major metropolitan centers was the central theme of the agenda held by the Brazil-China Business and Trade Promotion Chamber (CPNCBC) on August 23, 2024.
The Chamber’s delegation conducted an institutional technical visit to the Operational Control Center (OCC) of the São Paulo Metropolitan Trains Company (CPTM) in São Paulo, where they were welcomed by the Director of Operation and Maintenance, Mr. Luiz Eduardo Argenton.
The meeting was marked by a high-level exchange of experiences regarding infrastructure management and mass transit systems.
The CPTM OCC, considered the “brain” of São Paulo’s railway operation, served as the setting for the presentation of monitoring and control technologies that are currently a reference in mobility management in Brazil. The visit allowed CPNCBC to identify points of convergence between the challenges of the São Paulo network and the solutions developed by China’s railway industry.
Modernization and Clean Energy on the Tracks
During the meeting, the agenda moved beyond daily operations, focusing on the future of metropolitan transport. The Chamber highlighted the strong interest of major Chinese railway companies in establishing partnerships aimed at modernizing the urban network.
The dialogue prioritized themes such as intermodal integration (efficient connection between trains, subways, and buses) and, principally, innovation in clean energy applied to public transport, aiming to reduce the operations’ carbon footprint.
For the Chamber’s leadership, the moment is propitious to unite Brazil’s operational scale with the Asian technological vanguard.
“Technical cooperation between Brazil and China can transform urban mobility, uniting experience, scale, and sustainability,” highlighted President Julio Kawano, reinforcing that transport efficiency is an essential pillar for quality of life in cities.
Smart and Connected Cities
The visit reinforced the importance of sustainable mobility as a development vector for so-called Smart Cities.
By expanding the institutional dialogue with the São Paulo government and CPTM’s direction, CPNCBC paves the way for future technological exchange projects. The goal is to facilitate the entry of innovations that make rail transport not only faster but also smarter and more ecologically responsible, consolidating the Sino-Brazilian partnership in the urban infrastructure sector.
