CHINA MISSION 2025 | DAY 3 – Clean Energy and Environmental Innovation at Shenzhen Energy

On the third day of the institutional mission of the Brazil-China Business and Trade Promotion Chamber (CPNCBC), the delegation visited the facilities of Shenzhen Energy Group, one of China's most prominent companies in the energy generation and innovation sector.

Waste-to-Energy Plant: Power from Urban Waste

During the visit, the Chamber’s representatives learned about the structure of the Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plant, a model of environmental efficiency that symbolizes the new era of waste management in China.

The facility processes urban waste for energy recovery, eliminating the need for landfills and drastically reducing the environmental impacts of traditional disposal methods.

Located in Shenzhen, one of the world’s most technological and sustainable cities, Shenzhen Energy has distinguished itself through the application of Waste-to-Energy (WTE) solutions—a technology that transforms municipal solid waste into clean and renewable electricity.

The technology applied allows for the conversion of tons of waste into energy that powers thousands of homes. It also reduces waste volume by up to 90% and weight by approximately 80%, strengthening the concept of a circular city—where what was once considered waste is transformed into a resource.

Sustainable Innovation as a Driver for Development

Shenzhen Energy is a global benchmark in energy innovation, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability, with a strong presence in solar, thermal, and waste recovery projects.

During the visit, the company presented case studies of technological integration between the public and private sectors, demonstrating how continuous investment in clean infrastructure translates into economic, social, and environmental benefits.

“The Chinese model of waste-to-energy plants is an inspiration for us to rethink the future of Brazilian cities, combining efficiency, sustainability, and value generation from waste,” stated the CPNCBC leadership.
